摘 要:
ABSTRACT :As the Avatar 3D movie experience swept the world in 2010, 3D visual content has become the most eye-catching spot in the consumer electronics products. Different from the existing popular 2D visual systems, 3D visual systems can provide binocular depth cues for end users to acquire better understanding of the geometric structure of the captured scenes, and nonverbal signals and cues in visual conversation. In this talk, we will discuss two key components in the end-to-end 3D video ecosystem, namely, the 3D video compression and the 3D video communications. We first introduce the state-of-the-art 3D video compression methods, including the individual view coding, frame-compatible stereo coding, video plus depth coding, multiview video coding, multiview video plus depth coding, and layered depth video coding. With these advanced tools, the 3D video applications can provide much richer user experiences, such as view-switching or free-view mechanism. Similar to most 2D video transmission scenarios, the 3D video packets also suffer transmission errors and delays. On the other hand, 3D video streams are more complex than 2D streams, which impose more design challenges but also provide more research opportunities. In the second part of this talk, we will review some recent advances in 3D video communications, including the error resilience, error concealment, and view switching mechanism.
